Aviation SecurityThe European Commission has acknowledged the need for its member states to take responsibility for financing aviation security. No legislative action has been taken to govern the aviation industry's increased security spending since the September 11th attacks, despite calls from the European parliament for a formal assessment of the financial impact of such measures. In a report published on the 6th of August, the commission stated that: "The protection of European citizens against terrorist attacks is essentially a state responsibility." Secretary general of the Association of European Airlines, Ulrich Schulte-Strathaus, welcomed the findings, stating: "It is a fine thing to see that our position is shared by the European Commission and that more transparency is being advocated. "It is the role of any given government to protect the general public – at railway stations, football stadiums, on the streets and at airports. That is how governments around the world and in particular the US see their role." HSE will be providing a blue print for the Airport & Aviation Security decision makers, to guide them with their security purchase to fall in line with National & EU legislation & regulations.
